The Memory Foam Warehouse – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of memory foam mattresses – has taken on a ten-year lease of a 2,603 sq. ft. unit at Commodore Court at Nuthall Road in a deal done by NG Chartered Surveyors.

The mattress company, based in Wakefield, has four outlets in West Yorkshire, although it sells the majority of its products online. The Nottingham outlet will be the first to open outside West Yorkshire as the company plans to open 10 more outlets across the UK in the next year.

Henry Henson, from NG, said: “I’m really pleased that The Memory Foam Warehouse will be coming to Nottingham. It’s great to see a retailer bucking the trend by moving from online sales to physical outlets. The unit was purpose built for retail, and sits conveniently between Sainsbury’s and the Bath Store.

“The property had been on the market for 18 months with previous agents. Once NG was appointed to market the property we managed to secure a deal in less than five months, which is a great result.”

The Memory Foam Warehouse started out in 2001 with a single outlet in Birstall, West Yorkshire. It has since opened another three outlets in the area, though its growth has been driven by online sales. Despite this, the retailer’s managers say that customers still want to try out its products before they buy.

Richard Wright, business development manager at The Memory Foam Warehouse, said: “There is nothing more important to people than a good night’s sleep, and a lot of customers want to try out our memory foam mattresses physically, as well as get advice in person from staff. Our outlets will have a range of products on display and our staff will all be fully trained ‘sleep experts’.

“We have a large customer base in the Nottingham area, so it was an obvious choice for our first outlet outside West Yorkshire. The location of the unit at Commodore Court is ideal. Situated on the A610, it’s easy for customers to get to. It’s also set between two established retailers, and so we’re hoping to attract lots of passing trade. Henry at NG was a pleasure to work with – he has a great knowledge of the local area and answered any questions we had.”
Richard Sutton, partner at NG Chartered Surveyors, said: “It’s fantastic news that the Memory Foam Warehouse has picked Nottingham as the first stage in its expansion plans. It shows that despite the tough economic climate, people in Nottingham are still spending, so it makes an attractive location for national retailers looking to develop their business.”

The mattress manufacturer and retailer hopes to open more outlets across the county over the next year. Its next venture will be in Manchester, and after that it will look to expand into the South East, where it has a large customer base.

The Memory Foam Warehouse is part of the GNG Group Plc., which makes foam products across the healthcare, sports, safety, and lifestyle industries.
