Alder King complete Back to back deals at Blackbrook Business Park, Taunton

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - Alder King complete Back to back deals at Blackbrook Business Park, TauntonAlder King’s Taunton office has completed back to back deals at Blackbook Business Park in Taunton, securing quality new accommodation on Somerset’s leading office park for international law firm Kennedys and City & Guilds South West.

The first deal was the relocation of the South West branch of City & Guilds, the vocational qualifications provider, which has moved from Broomhay House to Kingston House. The organisation has taken 3,035 sq ft (281.95 sq m) of space on the ground floor in accommodation previously occupied by the Learning & Skills Council. Alder King advised the landlord on the surrender of the Learning & Skills Council’s lease and the letting to City & Guilds.

Alder King has also secured the letting of Broomhay House, a detached two storey office building, to Kennedys, a leading national law firm specialising in resolving disputes and claims handling in the insurance sector. Local recruitment has resulted in a threefold increase in headcount in Taunton as Kennedys has grown its UK business and expanded into a network of 18 offices internationally. Kennedys has now taken the 6,000 sq ft building, tripling the accommodation it occupied formerly on Blackbrook Business Park.

Kennedys has now instructed Alder King on securing a sub-letting of 1,378 sq ft of the ground floor of its accommodation at Broomhay House.

Lead Partner in Kennedys’ Taunton office, Sarah Cornish said: “As one of nine UK offices, the growth of Kennedys’ business in Taunton is a direct result of national insurance clients’ recognition of the quality of our legal and claims handling teams here in Taunton. By integrating with Kennedys’ UK-wide IT systems, we’ve proved our ability to handle clients’ claims very effectively. We’ve been recruiting steadily for four years, so I’m delighted that we are now better placed for further expansion.”

Andrew Maynard of Alder King said: “Blackbrook Business Park continues to provide some of the best office accommodation in Somerset and is home to some of the region’s main employers. Such is its popularity as a business location that we are already seeing signs of early interest in the sub-letting opportunity within Broomhay House.”

New business parks vital to maintaining the South West's competitive edge

The South West is well-placed to capitalise on the upturn in the economy when it comes, thanks to the investment in infrastructure and development of strategic employment sites in recent years, says Ralph Collison, partner at leading property consultants Alder King.

The lack of well-located, serviced sites has previously hindered both the expansion of local companies and inward investment. But over the past two years, there has been considerable investment in infrastructure throughout the region, particularly on the eastern side of Exeter, which has enabled strategic sites with a good supply of land to be brought forward for development.
