DTZ secures Leeds University student halls sale for homes

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - DTZ secures Leeds University student halls sale for homesLeeds: Acting on behalf of The University of Leeds, DTZ, a UGL company has completed the sale of the former Bodington Hall student halls of residence in Adel, north Leeds.  The purchasers Barratt David Wilson Homes are proposing to redevelop the 20 acre site into 110 luxury family homes.

Bodington Hall previously provided 650 catered rooms and 498 self catered rooms and was the largest student accommodation owned by the University. Bodington Hall is located 3.5 miles north of the City Centre in the sought after residential suburb of Adel.

Outline planning was initially secured by ID Planning for a high quality residential development based on an indicative scheme of 157 dwellings. The site was vacated in December 2012 and is available for immediate redevelopment.

DTZ Leeds Director, Phil Roebuck who led the sale commented: “This is one of the best residential development sites to come to the market in recent years and it was no surprise that it generated huge interest and an excellent price.”

Steve Gilley, Head of Estates at the University confirmed he was delighted with the outcome adding:  “The sale proceeds will be reinvested in developing and enhancing our academic estate and investing in the student experience at our city centre campus.”

Managing Director of Barratt, Ian Ruthven commented:  “The acquisition of this prime opportunity complements our recently launched Centurion Fields development at Adel and is precisely the type of brownfield site that we are keen to acquire.”

Karen French and Prew Lumley, Squire Sanders Solicitors led the team acting for the University of Leeds assisted by Abduss Patel. Barratt David Wilson Homes was represented by Walker Morris.
