Electricity distributor takes a powerful presence in North Derbyshire

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - Electricity distributor takes a powerful presence in North DerbyshireA major power distributor is opening a new maintenance centre in Chesterfield, which it says will further improve services for its customers in north Derbyshire.

Western Power Distribution, the electricity distribution network operator for the Midlands, South West and Wales, has purchased a 40,000 sq ft industrial unit on the Sheepbridge Industrial Estate on Carrwood Road in a deal done by NG Chartered Surveyors and CBRE, who acted on behalf of Wordie Properties Limited.

Jones Long LaSalle acted on behalf of Western Power Distribution.

Western Power Distribution will convert the unit into an office and warehouse to hold its network equipment, enabling it to respond quickly to any electricity supply issues in the region.

Jonathon Seddon, director at NG Chartered Surveyors, said: “This is great news for Chesterfield and the wider region.  Western Power Distribution is a leading electricity distributor and I was delighted that we were able to offer them a unit that met its needs”.

“There was a lot of interest in this large property. The Sheepbridge Industrial Estate benefits from its proximity to the A61 and the M1 and offers a diverse range of industrial and warehouse units of all sizes.

“The unit was marketed as a freehold or a leasehold opportunity and attracted good levels of interest, culminating in two strong offers – one to purchase and the other to let. The landlord decided to go with the sale offer, and the contracts were exchanged within just one month of solicitors being instructed.  It was a good team effort by all involved to push the deal through so quickly”.

Western Power Distribution serves 7.8 million customers and employs over 6,000 people in the UK.

David Withers, estates manager at Western Power Distribution, said: “We aim to provide the best possible service to our customers. The new depot will help us to respond quickly and efficiently to any problems with the local network.

“We will be doing some work on the building to make sure that it fits our requirements, and we hope that our new depot will be up and running early next year.”

CBRE acted alongside NG Chartered Surveyors secure this deal as joint agents on the Sheepbridge Industrial Estate. Toby Vernon, an agent at CBRE, said: “I’m delighted that Western Power Distribution has bought this unit. Myself and Jonathon at NG worked together to identify a buyer and sell the property that was right for both the property owner and the buyer.

“The Sheepbridge estate is popular with local and national businesses and Western Power Distribution will make a great addition to the locality.”

Charles Wordie of Wordie Properties said: “This transaction clearly demonstrates that there is strong demand for the right property in the right location. I am delighted with the way the deal was transacted by all parties as it is a clear illustration of what can be achieved with when people work together in a professional and cooperative manner.”
