wantspacegotspace.co.uk - Goadsby Chartered Surveyors, layout "The Green Deal" and tell us what we all need to knowAccording to Ian Moore, this is what you need to do:-

1.    Stage one is to have a Green Deal assessor/adviser to carry a full Green Deal assessment on your property. The Green Deal Assessor will look at all the ways you can improve your energy efficiency and recommend different measures to be implemented this will be known as your "Green Deal plan". Once you have your Green Deal plan you will be ready to move to stage two – instructing a Green Deal provider.

2.    Choose a Green Deal provider to carry out the work. You discuss with them what work you want done and whether the Green Deal is right for you. You DO NOT have to use your current electricity supplier to be your Green deal provider, many different companies will offer different incentives to be your Green Deal supplier, these may take the form of various incentives and will need to be discussed individually.

The Green Deal provider will also lay out your finance plan and give you the planned instalment rate you will pay back, this will usually be a monthly amount and paid back through your electricity bill, over anything up to a 25 year period, depending upon what you have done.

3.    If you go ahead with the improvements you must sign your Green Deal Plan - this is a contract between you and the provider stating what work will be done and how much it will cost. The provider will then arrange for a Green Deal installer to do the work.

Once your Green deal provider has been put into place you need to get in touch with up to 3 Green Deal installers. Your installers will be on a preferred installers list ensuring you get only the finest tradesmen working on your property.

Your Green Deal installer will work from your Green Deal plan and install the agreed energy efficiency measures as laid out in your Green Deal recommendations.

The installers will be paid directly from your Green Deal Provider YOU DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY UP FRONT.

If you’re a landlord, you must get your tenant’s permission before you sign up, and if you’re a tenant you must get your landlord’s permission to sign up - this also applies to social housing.
