Leading property figure, Margaret Hopkins, is to retire after 40 years

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - LCP - Leading property figure, Margaret Hopkins, is to retire after 40 yearsOne of the leading figures in the Midlands commercial property world is to retire after 40 years.

Margaret Hopkins, marketing director at LCP Management Limited (LCP) and based at the Pensnett Estate, Kingswinford, will step down at the end of the year.

She has seen many changes in her 40 years career with LCP, not least the opportunities for women, as she has worked her way up from her first role with the company as secretary/PA to the property director to her present position.

The company has also changed from a subsidiary of a PLC, with 3.5m sq ft of industrial space valued at just under £50m, to a privately owned company with more than 14m sq ft of industrial and retail accommodation, with a current value in excess of £1 billion.

Margaret said: “My job role has evolved over the years and I have grown with the company. I have relished the challenges of changing responsibilities, working with a great team and meeting so many different people.

“I have enjoyed every aspect of the business, including involvement in the design and layout of new developments, major refurbishments and the ongoing improvements of the various estates in which I have been involved. The face to face contact in negotiating directly with prospective tenants has been a very satisfying part of the job.

“I have been dealing with some of the tenants for many years and they have  expanded several times providing an ongoing relationship.

“I will certainly miss many aspects of my job but feel the time is right for me to retire and move on to the next phase of my life.”

Five years after joining the then LCP Properties Ltd as a secretary Margaret became assistant marketing manager and started negotiating small lettings, handling short term warehousing and dealing with the advertising and marketing.

In December 1987, the property division changed ownership and was acquired by new shareholders and renamed London and Cambridge Properties Ltd. Margaret was invited to join LCP Management Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary, as marketing manager.

In June 1989 she joined its board with responsibility for the industrial portfolio managed from the Pensnett Head Office. This now comprises approximately 7.5m sq ft in the Midlands, North West and North East and is valued in the region of £260m.  Margaret is also a director of 17 LCP subsidiaries.

Retirement will certainly mean a different pace.  Margaret, who lives in Stourbridge, is looking forward to having more time for travelling, both at home and abroad with her husband, who retired last year, walking with their Old English Sheepdog, and being able to see more of friends and family. She has also given herself a challenge to learn to play the piano after trying some years ago when she struggled to find enough time to practice.
