New Notts partner at Elliott Wood aids regional expansion

New Notts partner at Elliott Wood aids regional expansionStructural and civil engineering firm Elliott Wood has promoted Peter Smith from senior associate to partner at its Nottingham base in a bid to aid its continued plans for expansion.

Peter, aged 41, first joined the company’s Wimbledon office as a senior engineer back in 2004, progressing up to senior associate in 2008. During his time at the company Peter has played a key role in running a variety of projects, covering all sectors and specialisms, including a number of technically challenging schemes.

He has also been involved in the development of the business being tasked in 2007 with setting up the Nottingham office and forging strong relationships in the Midlands and North of England amidst a difficult financial climate. Peter now heads up this office and, under his new title, will drive forward the business’ growth plans for the region.

“Through the recession we went against the grain by substantially increasing revenue and bringing in big contract wins at the Nottingham office and my promotion is partially in recognition of this success,” said Peter.

The Nottingham office has more than quadrupled since being established – now employing 12 people – and has seen an increase in large contracts wins across the Midlands and more northern regions.
Peter has 18 years’ experience in the industry having also worked at Joynes Pike and Associates, Price & Myers and Sinclair Knight Merz, and has been responsible for the strategy and management for the Nottingham office for some time.

Speaking of his plans for the business, he added: “Moving forward we expect to double the size of the office in the next three years. We aim to continue strengthening existing relationships while developing new ones, with a particular focus on the retail and commercial sectors. My colleague Stephen King, Associate, is also key to this and together we hope that we will continue to work with the quality contractors, developers, designers and architects that we currently have the pleasure of doing business with.”

As well as working on high-profile nationwide projects with companies such as Morrisons, the team in Nottingham has also worked on numerous contracts in Nottinghamshire.  Among these was the external works for Nottingham Contemporary Gallery, one of the largest arts centres in the UK. The firm also gives structural advice on the construction of the exhibits at the gallery.
“We supply a truly unique service with a focus on quality and with value-added solutions built into our design-led projects. It is this along with our holistic approach that sets us apart from the competition,” concluded Peter.
