Power teams prepare to conquer South Wales Three Peaks Challenge for St David’s Hospice Care

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - Power teams prepare to conquer South Wales Three Peaks Challenge for St David’s Hospice CareColleagues from electricity business Western Power Distribution (WPD) are getting switched on in readiness for the St David’s Hospice Care’s Three Peaks of Wales Challenge.

It’s the sixth successive year that the company, which has a base at Ty Coch, Cwmbran, has put its energy behind backing the gruelling endurance charity event.

So far 16 staff have signed up to take part in the challenge to scale three of Wales’ tallest peaks, Mount Snowdon, 1,085m(3,560ft), Cadair Idris, 893m (2,927 ft) and Pen-y-fan, 886m (2,907ft), all in a single day.

The St David’s Hospice Care Three Peaks of Wales Challenge, which involves teams of four tackling the trio of mountains, is on Saturday, June 22.

As well as being the main sponsor WPD also encourages its workforce to take an active part in the event.
WPD estates specialist Paul Fitzpatrick, who is gearing up for the challenge, said:  “All four teams from Ty Coch are now training regularly. We’re also planning a dry run on each of the peaks before tackling them all in one go on the day.
“We’re not underestimating the challenge we have set ourselves. St David's Hospice Care is a great cause and if we can help raise funds and get fit in the process then that’s a bonus.”

Emma Saysell, Chief Executive of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “The Three Peaks of Wales Challenge is a rewarding test to which teams return year after year.

“Some use it as a great team building exercise while others simply enjoy the thrill and immense satisfaction gained in conquering three of Wales' most majestic peaks – while raising valuable funds for St David’s Hospice Care along the way.”
