Promotion and new Graduates for surveying firm

wantspacegotspace.co.uk - Promotion and new Graduates for surveying firmCardiff Chartered Surveying firm Cooke & Arkwright has promoted Alex Kalebic to the position of Associate in its Retail agency and recruited graduate Benjamin Davies to boost the team, which despite a very challenging market has performed strongly. The firm has also recruited another graduate, Mark Siddons, who joins the restructured Business Space department.

Managing Director Andrew Gardner said, “I congratulate Alex on his well-deserved promotion and I am delighted to welcome our two new graduates to the agency teams. As a firm, Cooke & Arkwright has been clear about its determination throughout the difficult economic climate of recent years to maintain a strong market presence by retaining, recruiting and training highly qualified staff to deliver the best professional services and keep us well positioned to take advantage of market changes and improvements as and when they ever take place.”

Alex, who graduated in law at Cardiff University and has a post graduate diploma in Surveying said, “It’s rewarding to have your efforts recognised and I see this as an important step in my career progression,” he said. “It means I have greater responsibility going forward with even greater emphasis on business development, whilst I will still be focussed on leading acquisitions for Greggs across South and West Wales.  We have also recently been retained to act for Ladbrokes on their acquisitions across South Wales moving forward and I will be involved in assisting them with that process.”

Alex lives in Penarth and for several years has been a volunteer lifeboat crewman with the RNLI. He will be guiding his new colleague Ben Davies, who also lives in Penarth, in his role in the Retail agency and assisting him with his APC with a view to becoming a full member of the RICS. “The retail market is constantly evolving,” said Alex, “and Christmas is the key trading time for the majority of retailers, so we are hoping for strong Christmas sales to drive growth and acquisition plans for next year.”

Retail is fairly new territory for Ben, who has a degree in Property Development and is studying Chinese Mandarin. “I was initially drawn to property surveying and the opportunity to become chartered through the influence of my brother, who has been in Building Surveying with part of Atkins group in Cardiff for over five years,” he said.  “I like the idea of being out on site and getting involved in projects. It’s a privilege to be part of the busy retail team and I intend to play an important role in maintaining its status as one of the most active retail agencies in South Wales. I hope to continue the successful record Cooke & Arkwright has built in developing young graduates.”  A keen ice-hockey player, Ben has captained the Cardiff Devil’s junior teams at under-14s, 16s and 19s levels, as well as playing internationally for Wales and England.

Fellow recruit Mark Siddons, who comes from Llangibby in Monmouthshire, is also a passionate sportsman having spent the past five years playing professional rugby in L’Aquila and Lazio in Italy. His rugby career gained him valuable experience in integrating and socialising with people from different backgrounds and nationalities. “I learned to speak Italian and I coached English and junior rugby,” he said. “I was awarded captaincy of a team comprising many nationalities and learned the value of teamwork and a positive outlook.”

Mark graduated in History and Politics at Nottingham University and is now ready to focus on his career in property.  “I am very pleased to have this opportunity within the Business Space department to achieve my long term goal in pursuing a professional property career. I look forward to working with the rest of the team, acquiring the expertise to help develop the office, industrial agency and professional work, in order to make a valuable contribution to the overall success of the business.”
